This is a picture of what the airplanes use as fuel and as you can see it it's not the normal oil that cars use but it is a special mixture created for planes.
This is Tim who taught us about the pre-flight inspection and what to look for and how to fix something if necessary.
This is the inside of the cockpit of the plane located in the image below.
This is the plane that was mentioned in the above sentence about the cockpit.
This man talked about the different parts of the plane engine and how it is different form a car engine.
Pre-Flight inspection
Here we learned about the pre-flight inspection for a plane. We were taught about what to look for on a plane such as dents in the fuselage or missing screws. As well as the type of oil that planes use.
Airplane operation
Here we were taught about the cockpit of the aircraft. We learned that the pilot had two different types of compasses, VOR and normal compass. We also learned that the pilot is in constant communication with anyone else on board the aircraft via headsets.
Navigation
Here we learned about plane navigation. We were told that at specific altitudes the airspace of a building such as an airport increases the higher the altitude is. We also learned that the military has a very large airspace around their installations.
Pilot training
iWe learned about what it takes to become a pilot. Apparently you need 40 hours alone by looking at your instruments on the cockpit dashboard only. And that you need to be in constant communication with the surrounding air towers.
Maintenance
In this section we learned about the maintenance of an aircraft. Such as that most planes not fuel injected like most cars are nowadays. And that the airplane engine uses generators call MAGNETOS to produce a continuous ignition spark.
Conclusion
I learned a lot of aircraft as well as the airspace. Such as the airspace for the military is not set in a circle like most other buildings such as airports are.
I already knew however how most of the controls and dials in the aircraft cockpit were controlled because of previous experience on a flight simulator.
If I could ask them one more question it would be how much is one of the MAGNETOS. This is because in my opinion, the MAGNETOS are pretty cool since they are self-sustaining.
To make the trip better I would say be there longer then an hour so that we are not being rush to talk to and learn from the instructors.
